What is A Telecommuter?
A telecommuter is someone who works from
home using a computer, telephone and/or the mail system to complete work assignments and
communicate with their employer. Telecommuting means transporting work to the worker
rather than the worker to the workplace.
According to a 1997 study, about 40% of the total U.S.
work force is working from home either as self-employed home office workers, telecommuters
working from home, or are working after-hours time at home. This rate is currently growing
by of almost 20% a year
Today, many business permit their employees to work from
home. These include very large companies such as IBM, AT&T, Pacific Bell, and more.
AT&T alone has 36,000 telecommuters! And the U.S. government currently has a goal of
providing telecommuting work for 60,000 of their employees.
More and more companies are beginning to employ
telecommuters on a daily basis. For you to become a telecommuter all you have to do is
apply for a WORK FROM HOME position with one of these companies. |
